RC Cola

Dr Pepper Inc.

RC Cola (short for Royal Crown Cola) is a classic American cola drink formulated by Claud A. Hatche in the USA in 1905. RC Cola has long been one of the major cola drinks in the USA along with the more internationally known Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

In 1910 fruit soft drinks were launched under the name Royal Crown. The first cola was named Chero-Cola. In 1912, they started selling concentrate to brewers, which created the company's franchise system.

Royal Crown Cola was launched in 1934 when they reformulated Chero-Cola and soon afterwards the name RC Cola was adopted. In 1962 came the company's Diet Rite Cola, which was developed for diabetics and people on diets, but the drink also became popular with the general public.

In the past there was also a caffeine-free variant called RC100, but it is no longer manufactured.

In October 2000, the Royal Crown company was bought by Cadbury Schweppes and became part of Dr Pepper Inc. In 2001, all international rights (outside the US, Canada and Mexico) collected in the Royal Crown Cola International company were sold to Cott Corporation.

In Sweden, RC Cola is manufactured and distributed by Kopparbergs Bryggeri.

  • 3. Is Cola Zero good for you?

The best is, of course, to drink tap water. What you should drink is, of course, only you decide and depends on how your diet looks in general.

If you choose to drink soft drinks, are heavy consumers of regular Cola, are trying to cut down on foods containing sugar and think that the older diet variants taste worse, Zero can absolutely be a healthy alternative. If you like Light/Zero, it's an even better option than regular Cola, based on the current state of knowledge. If your consumption is low, it doesn't make a big difference if you choose between regular (original) and the Zero-variant.
